Esen's Zeolite in Wastewater Treatment

Nitrogen compounds and heavy metal ions found in domestic and industrial wastewater pollute underground and surface waters in the environments where they are discharged and destroy the characteristics of these environments as both clean water and utility water. In addition, it has a toxic effect on fish and other aquatic fauna living in these waters and prevents the reproduction of algae necessary for this fauna to feed.

Esen’s Zeolite can keep contaminants up to 3 microns in water with its highly porous structure. It has inherent negative charges that enable it to adsorb cations such as ammonium and heavy metals. It also can absorb some organic contaminants and unwanted odors. Esen’s Zeolite particles also attract bacterial flocks, increasing bacterial activity per unit volume. Under favorable conditions, cations originating from various industries can be removed with Esen’s Zeolite:

Rb + Li + K + Cs + NH + 4

Na + Ag + Cd + 2 Pb + 2 Zn + 2

Ba + 2 Sr + 2 Cu + 2 Ca + 2 Hg + 2

Mg + 2 Fe + 3 Co + 3 Al + 3 Cr + 3

Examples of Industrial Wastewater Applications:

• Electroplating Wastewater (Nickel and Galvanized)

• Mineral Processing Wastewater

• Textile Industry Wastewater

• Paint Industry Wastewater

• Glass Industry Wastewater

• Battery Industry Wastewater

• Photo Wastewater

Benefits:

• Increase in system capacity reduces the initial investment cost and operating costs

• Getting better quality effluent provides better protection to the receiving environment

• Since less chemicals will be dosed for nutrient removal, operating costs are reduced

• Improvement in sludge characteristics increases the reuse possibilities of sludge

• Sludge removal costs are reduced as sludge dewatering is better

• Decreasing the need for polyelectrolyte required for sludge dewatering provides a reduction in chemical substance costs
